Electronic Arts wanted to move the Origin team to a new location in California, leaving behind Austin which had been Origin’s home for years. In the pre-broadband internet era this no doubt seemed like a rational (if short-sighted) business decision to the EA biz guys, who we are going to assume do not have families, only spawn formed in their piles of money.
